Counting Hams

Do you ever find yourself in the middle of counting and you don't remember starting? I was somewhere around 19 or 20 when I realized that I was counting every slice of ham I put on my pizza. With pizza this could be explained by my days as a Papa Murphy's girl, when we had to count, measure or weigh everything we put on a pizza. But with things besides pizza....I just think it is weird.

In case you are wondering there were 70 slices of ham on this pizza, and it was yummy.

Also, in case you wondered, this pizza was really easy to make. It's the easiest recipe for pizza crust I've ever seen, it doesn't even have to rise.

It is as follows:
1 T yeast
1 T sugar
1 C warm water
-----proof yeast
-----add
1 t salt
2 1/2 C flour
-----mix
-----press into a pan
-----cover with sauce and toppings
-----bake @ 375 for 12-20 minutes

The first time I made this Li was asleep. When he woke up he thought I was a miracle worker.

March is coming

It's almost March again and that means it is time for... March Madness-Book of Mormon style. Okay, so I've yet to come up with a good name for this event/activity, but it is pretty simple. Starting March 1st everyone is invited to read 17 pages in the Book of Mormon. On March 2nd you do the same thing. You keep doing this until March is over and you will have read the whole book in one month! Not only that, but you will be happier, your testimony and faith will be stronger and you will feel pretty good about yourself.

Don't worry, I'll post more info. later, including a schedule in case you get behind (I usually do). I'm posting this today so that you have a little while to toss the idea around in your brain and let it sink in until you realize that you really CAN do this and you WANT to give it a shot.

The Book of Mormon will change your life.

Leave a comment if you're in.

One o'clock and all's well

It is nearly one in the afternoon, we ate a yummy breakfast and went back to bed. Li is snoring beside me, and the occasional kick to my bladder from inside my belly reminds me that these days won't last forever!

Happy Hearts Day.

My cousin's wife Becca (what does that make her to me...besides cool?) has a website called Store & Style. It has great ideas on how to get organized, cool craft ideas, yummy sounding recipes, (I don't know, I've never gotten brave enough to try one, but if someone makes the pumpkin cookies I'd love a taste!) fun giveaways and other neat stuff like that.

For Thanksgiving Li and I made the Thanksgiving Tree that is pictured above. I liked it so much that for FHE last week we turned it into a Valentine's Day tree.

St. Paddy's Day is coming up...maybe you could try a green one. But I'm not too sure what you'd write on your 4 leaf clovers or pots of gold. Any ideas?

Family Update

Here is a belly shot from 22 weeks. For those of you who have wondered why my rear-end is getting so big...I'm pretty sure that is where the kid is hanging out.

And this is our most recent picture of the kid. He's cute, don't you think?

And finally, here is Li showing off his first broken bone.

This is the lovely boot that he gets to wear for the next few weeks.
He likes to come home and take it off and then tell me that he can't move because he'll hurt his foot. He even got the x-ray guy to advise that he not do any housework for the next 6 weeks. Ha.

I Spy...

Can you spot the love note I found on my refrigerator?

(Yes Melis, I still have the word magnets you gave me like 14 Christmases ago.)

A few reasons to smile...

A sweet husband who will sleep on the couch so I can get a good night's sleep in our itty bitty bed.

My new silly, fluffy, purple skirt courtesy of the freebie bin.
If this used to be yours--thanks!

A shower that spits out hot water. You don't realize what a joy it is to take a warm shower from the comfort of your own house...until you are denied that blessing for a whole entire month!

Jasmine rice--you can't ruin this stuff if you try. Believe me, I've tried. It doesn't matter how much water you put in, or how long you forget about it and leave it boiling, it is always yummy.

And guess who is coming to Hawaii in March. I think they are more excited about it than this picture would suggest.

No such luck

Phil's official forecast as read February 2nd, 2009 at sunrise at Gobbler's Knob:

Hear Ye Hear Ye

On Gobbler's Knob this glorious Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2009

Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of all Prognosticators

Awoke to the call of President Bill Cooper

And greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths

After casting a joyful eye towards thousands of his faithful followers,

Phil proclaimed that his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers were World Champions one more time

And a bright sky above me

Showed my shadow beside me.

So 6 more weeks of winter it will be.

Check out groundhog.org for more information.

Apparently some Phil wannabe called Staten Island Chuck in NYC didn't see his shadow, and.....he bit the mayor. So we obviously cannot trust the little rat.

Will Phil Feel Lucky?

I wanted to have a major Groundhog Day festival. But Heroes comes back on tomorrow, so I don't even think I could get my husband to come. Oh well, maybe next year.

I guess 6 more weeks of winter shouldn't make too much of a difference out here, but it has actually been quite cold and our water heater is broken so here's hoping that Phil doesn't see his shadow.

One of these days I WILL be in Punxsutawney to see for myself.

Jesus is Coming

Look busy.

I saw that on a bumper sticker and thought it was hysterical.

LOST, for real

Our Lost addiction has gotten a little out of control as of late. Last night we went to our friends' house to watch it and they weren't home. So we wandered around our apartment complex listening at everyone's door to hear who was watching it and then invited ourselves over.

And then the kicker....
This morning in Li's prayer he said, "We're grateful that Locke was able to get the compass to Richard."

Do you think I should tell him it's not real?

Crazy busy.

Li is uberbusy this semester. He is doing an internship at the counseling center. He is on one of his professor's research teams. He has all his regular classes and homework. Plus I made him join the Hawaiian Club with me and so I drag him to hula practice twice a week.

Last night he laughed at me when I said I wanted to go to bed at 9:30. But when I got back from brushing my teeth I found him like this.

Practice.

Today Li and I stole one of our favorite baby boys for the day. I don't think we are going to get anything done once our kid decides to pop out. I left Li and the baby while I went to change my clothes and when I came back Li was just staring at him while he drifted off to sleep.

So cute.

It makes me think all the days when I felt like this might actually be worth it.

Yesterday I went to the pregnant women group on campus. Everyone sat in a circle and we went around and said our name and when our baby was due. I felt like I accidentally came to the wrong group. It was very weird.

I want a microwave.

That is all.

a good read

I just read the most interesting article about how 10 women made 1 small change everyday for a month and got HUGE results.

Fascinating.

Check it out here.

Hump Day.

We made it to 20 weeks--here's a mug shot to celebrate!
That's somewhere in the vicinity of halfway, right?
Because I am pretty sure the kid has moved into my bladder and is throwing a party there.

Yummier.

I LOVE peach cobbler SO MUCH!!

However, I always thought that its creation had to be a complex process involving either a dutch oven or a recipe with lots of ingredients or both.

I tried the lots of ingredients recipe route and it turned out awful!

Then Alysha let me taste hers which was super yummy and she claimed it was also super easy.

Here's what we did....
put about 2 cups of peaches and juice in a pan
dumped 1/2 package of yellow cake mix on it
sprinkled some cinnamon all around
melted almost 1/2 stick of butter and poured it on top
baked the whole mess for about 35 minutes

It was so good that even Li, who doesn't usually get excited about sweet things, said,
"This is the bomb!"

Yeah, it was good. My taste buds haven't been so happy since....um...last night's dinner, but that's a post for another day.

Yummy.

This is what I ate for lunch the other day. No joke.

I also recently tried my hand at pancakes again. In the middle of another disastrous attempt I informed Li that he should probably start looking for a new wife.

I am REALLY bad at this stuff.

14 secrets

I've been reading this book lately per my dad's recommendation. It contains "the 14 secrets to a happy marriage." Before I started reading I told my dad it all looked like common sense to me and he agreed. But let's face it, marriage isn't exactly rocket science.

I'd say Li and I are happier than before, but that could have something to do with the fact that my hypersensitive nose no longer thinks he has a repulsive garlic stench.

Well...

Photo via flickr

Li was sad at first because he had to quit calling it Norma, then he realized he was going to have a baller and he got pretty excited!

We CAN'T WAIT to meet him!!!

Monday, January 12, 2009

Well this little creature growing inside of me is most definitely a kicker! I've been pretty sure it was kicking me for awhile now but yesterday in Sunday School there was no question about it. It even got a few off that were hard enough for Li to feel. Weird.

In a few hours we are heading off to find out if it is a boy kicker or a girl. Weird.

Free Food

Anyone interested in free breakfast Tuesday morning?

You just have to pick Li and I up from the airport.

Shoes.

I've been checking blogs like mad lately--usually catching new posts before google reader--pathetic I know. But the thing is no one seems to be updating enough to quench my stay at home all day every day on the computer thirst for new blog posts. (Did you get all that?)

I've decided to take matters into my own hands. So here is a post about my shoes.

I love them.

I like how they have bows--I've recently discovered I have a love for bows.

I bought them at Savers and wasn't too sure about them, but they were, in the end, a good buy.

Recently they have started giving me a blister on my right pinky toe.

Sad.

But still happy about the bows.

Really?

I woke up around noon and checked some blogs. I read one that said Laie was flooding.

I thought to myself, "huh?"

Then I read an emergency email from the school saying that the Stake Center was open as a shelter for students who needed it and the Old Gym was open as a First Aid center for the community.

Also volunteers were needed to help fill sandbags.

Also the graduation banquet is postponed until tomorrow.

Apparently outside my door a major storm raged all night long and left things like this...

and this...

That is my bishop, in a kayak, in the middle of the street.

You can see these pictures and more here.

And then you will have seen as much of the flood as I have.

Drugs?!!

Is anyone in HI going to Wal-Mart or Kaneohe? I really need some pills.

I was running out and feeling much better so I quit taking them - yesterday was one of the yuckiest days of my life. But that is a story for another day, when it won't make me sick to tell it!

Anywhoo, if you or someone you know is leaving Laie I could use some help!

Plenty Mahalo.
